TRAY - SEVEN DAY DESIGN CHALLENGE
Brief
“Design a product for student accommodation capable of compact storage, through the use of live hinges.”
Persona
Richard wants a product which is convenient to store, easy to clean and is compact for transporting when moving home.
Prototyping
Card and masking tape allowed for rapid prototyping. This was used for hands-on testing with users, and feasibility for the folding live hinges.
Proposal
The carrying tray doubles as a drying rack, perfect for student accommodation. With a design that can only fold when the tray is empty, the risk of accidental folding is eliminated when carrying.
The live hinges are made from overmoulded rubber, and don’t gather dirt like a mechanical hinge.
The tray can also be folder completely flat for storage in a cupboard or tight space.
